My Detour

My course was set before I could remember,

The heir apparent, a card holding member.
‘Twas never a struggle as all did bow,

It was just myself I did disavow.
A smile I saw that resembled my own,

I fell so fast, myself did I disown.
I tried my best, did all I could do,

Dragging, pushing, to no ado.
When the trial came, she quickly folded,

Such a pain at first, myself I scolded.
Though she so right, no culpability,

No strength, no self, just my responsibility.
Now so clear so obvious, what was I thinking?,

Just one heart that did the sinking.
