To understand anything new one must actively seek to learn from differing perspectives and assimilate new learnings into ones overall worldview.
This is not easy for most of us because it feels so good to be validated for older less nuanced ways of thinking.
Most stick with the feeling of being right and the validation it brings them from their crowd.
It’s much easier to shout others down and high five those around us than to do the difficult work of seeing the world closer and closer to the reality that actually exists, although this is the only way to understand people and the beginning of solving real world problems.
Absent the work there is no learning, no progress, and no path forward only a buttressing of our ego.
“It is human nature to conflate our personal successes with our personal greatness, when in fact much of our success is in large part due to the societal timing of things and those who support us.”
Three years ago psychology Professor Lewis M. Terman came to the conclusion that the average mental age of adults is approximately 16 years. Camille Paglia and Jordan Peterson, two of today’s most noted intellectuals put it around 14 years.
I agree, I just think it’s a bit lower nowadays😉
Intellectual maturation is characterized by ones ability to process, and indeed to seek out knowledge whose most unwanted byproduct conjures up feelings of doubt inducing an anxiety in ones current beliefs, weakening the comforting and conforming notion of ideological certitude. Operating in such a way is the realm of the adults, earned only through experience, effort and an aware openness to nuance.
A posture becoming more and more foreign to an increasingly growing number of disparate, but in practice very similar tribes, unconsciously possessed by a spirit of resentment of the expanding “other”.
Each group grasping for an elusive kind power detached from competency and dependent upon force, not understanding or skill, to maintain its grasp on what it believes to be the levers of control.
Our era, now bathed in the spirit of a kind of blindness, a possessed and autonomous collective unconsciousness of our own making. The fruit of our apparent success, a fruit which we are both addicted and conformed to without the slightest understanding of its existence or where it may be leading us.
Activism by those informed and operating in this realm, admittingly an ever dwindling number, and by those on the path towards becoming adult, is where we must focus our energies.
The conditions that give rise to currency wars are too much debt and too little growth.
World Wide we have the highest debt of all time on every measure and we’ve not had real wage growth for decades. People have for the most part given up hope for doing better than their parents.
Currency wars, attempts at gaining a temporary advantage over other currencies by attracting financial investment, are zero sum games and lead to Trade Wars.
Been going on for years
Trade Wars, attempts at gaining a temporary advantage over other countries financially, through tariffs and such, are zero sum games and lead to Shooting Wars.
Nationalism, Protectionism, Parties over Nations, Polarized Ideologies, Populism, an extreme Moral Crisis!
Shooting Wars, like those that killed hundreds of millions of people in the 20th century, will be much worse next time and seem inevitable.
The major powers are all increasing the size of their nuclear arsenals and capabilities…..
And even with all of the resources and information available at the touch of our fingers, critical thinking, freedom of speech and civility are vanishing before our eyes!
